The brain fart award goes to yours truly for bringing the camera but forgetting the battery. Sorry, no pics or video this year. You can see some of their pictures from last year's race since many of the players were the same. It's a shame too, because as I stood at the top of the run-up I was struck by how peaceful and serene the view was. It overlooked Duncan Creek, whose banks are wooded and whose fall colors have not yet passed. I'll bet none of you guys that were there noticed, did you. Well, I suppose as the course designer that's my fault. Heh.

Beckie Fuller took charge of the Women's race with no one else in sight when she finished. Diane Ostenso and Karen Libsch made a spirited competition for second as Ostenso held a slim lead for the last two laps to hold on.

Jonah Ritter was the rabbit in the B race, pursued by the quartet of Steven Pippin, Mike Lyner, Mario Macaruso, and James Warren. Eventually Ritter was reeled in and it was Pippin that began turning the screws. He established a gap, while Ritter recovered enough for second place.

Dewey Dickey cranked out a 5 minute opening lap in the A race. Harry Anderson maintained contact with Tim Norrie, Jay Henderson, and Jared Roy following. A second chase pack formed containing Chris Flood, Andy Powell, Tom MacDonald and Paul Ellis.

Dewey Dickey cranked out a second 5 minute lap. No one maintained contact.

Like clockwork, Dewey Dickey cranked out a third 5 minute lap. When he looked back he didn't see anyone. At that point he throttled back and stopped riding 5 minute laps. To be honest I didn't pay much attention to him after that as he no longer represented the interesting part of the race.

The chase group of four stayed closely grouped for much of the race. As the laps progressed and the repeated climbs of the run-up began to take their toll it was first Roy then Norrie that fell off the pace under pressure from Anderson and Henderson. With one to go it looked like a sprint for second was a possibility although Henderson was clearly hoping to force the issue before then. He was successful as he established enough of a gap to roll over the line ahead of a late charge from Anderson, followed by Norrie and Roy.

Meanwhile, Powell and Flood had separated themselves from the second chase pack, but not from each other. They remained paired until the end where Powell took the finish. The rush for the last paying place went to... Tim Boyle, who had worked his way through the tiring field to snag 8th place.
