The C race was uncharacteristically aggressive with many riders launching attacks from the unrelenting rollers. The field was whittled down to about half its original size as 12 riders approached the final climbs of the race. From there the race hit the fan as Mark Mlinar, Jim Fischer, and Troy Vargas left the remaining contenders too shattered to mount an effective chase. Mlinar took the sprint for the win.
